How Pawn Shop Gold Prices Work
Start with melt value
Spot price is converted from a troy ounce to one gram, then multiplied by the gold purity: 41.67% for 10K, 58.33% for 14K and 75% for 18K.
Apply the quoted percentage
A shop's offer can be expressed as a percentage of melt value. Enter the percentage you were actually quoted to compare it consistently.
Subtract non-gold weight
Stones, clasps and watch movements are not part of the gold melt value. Use the scrap calculator when an item contains material that must be deducted.
