24 karat denotes pure gold. This calculator defaults to 999 fineness (99.9%): divide the spot price by 31.1034768, then multiply by 0.999. Use an explicit fineness when it is known.
You will see it stamped 24K, 24KT, 999 or 9999. The 24KT gold price per gram is the same as the 24K gold price because both marks identify pure gold. These stamps appear most often on bullion bars, coins and Asian investment jewellery.
Refiners pay closest to spot for 24K, since almost nothing has to be separated out. Recognised bars and coins usually change hands at a small premium over melt rather than a discount.

We take the live XAU/USD spot price per troy ounce, divide it by 31.1034768 to get the price of one gram of pure gold, then multiply by the purity of the karat you selected: 0.5833 for 14K, 0.75 for 18K, and so on.
