About 14K Gold
14 karat gold is 14 parts gold to 10 parts alloy, a theoretical purity of 58.33%. It is the default purity for American engagement rings, chains and everyday jewellery because the alloy content makes it markedly harder and more scratch-resistant than 18K or 22K, while still carrying substantial gold value.
You will usually see it stamped 14K, 14KT or 585. The 14KT gold price per gram is the same as the 14K gold price because both marks indicate 58.33% gold. The 585 stamp means 58.5% gold, a difference of about 3 cents on a 5 gram band.
White, yellow and rose 14K all contain the same amount of fine gold. Only the alloy differs (nickel or palladium for white, copper for rose), so the melt value is identical regardless of colour. Rhodium plating on white gold adds no value.

We take the live XAU/USD spot price per troy ounce, divide it by 31.1034768 to get the price of one gram of pure gold, then multiply by the purity of the karat you selected: 0.5833 for 14K, 0.75 for 18K, and so on.
14K gold is 58.33% pure by weight. The remaining 41.67% is alloy metal, usually copper, silver, nickel or zinc, which has negligible resale value. You are paid for the fine gold content, not the total weight of the item.
