About 10K Gold

10 karat gold is 10 parts gold to 14 parts alloy, a theoretical purity of 41.67%. It is the hardest and cheapest karat in wide American use, which is why it dominates class rings, charm bracelets and mass-market chains.

You will usually see it stamped 10K, 10KT or 417. The 10KT gold price per gram is the same as the 10K gold price because both marks indicate 41.67% gold. Use the stamped fineness or an assay result when a more precise valuation is needed.

Because less than half the weight is gold, a 10K piece brings noticeably less at a refiner than a 14K piece of the same size. The alloy, usually copper, silver and zinc, carries no meaningful resale value.
